Volunteers

Our volunteers are the beating heart of the Optical Heritage Museum. Without their dedication, expertise and passion, the museum would likely still be in storage.

New volunteers are always welcome at the museum. As you will see, it doesn’t matter if you have had a long and illustrious career in the optical industry or just looking for ways to support the community. Everyone is welcome at the Optical Heritage Museum.

GET TO KNOW OUR VOLUNTEERS

Diane Matuck

Diane Matuck has recently joined our volunteer network after stepping down from her role as Museum board member after 15 successful years.

With a background in optics and a keen eye for storytelling, her innovative and creative ideas have helped keep our museum displays fresh. We are lucky to have her expertise in the museum team.

Debbie Schiro

With a long and successful career in the corporate world, Debbie is new to the optical industry, but has already taken it by storm.

Having fallen in love with the Optical industry story on a tour through the museum, she was quick to lend her services and before she knew it, has become our Museum Director.

In her role, she is helping the museum carve new and exciting avenues of structure, promotion, and revenue. She is not just a valuable asset to our team, but above all else, wonderful human!

Jeanine McElroy

Jeanine plays a pivotal role among our museum volunteer group. With a background in finance, she ensures the museum operations continue to run in a smooth direction.

Her skills have extended to both front and back of house, delivering guided museum tours and ensuring displays are updated and reorganized as required.

Jeanine has also led the development of all digitizing and cataloging of negative images from the American Optical archives. She is an incredible resource and dedicated team member.

Art Salce

Art is a fantastic physical support to the museum. If there is something hanging on our walls - chances are, Art was involved.

He is quick to lend a hand when setting up new displays - often on a very short time frame. His work has been invaluable to the museum over the years.

Art was also a former American Optical employee and specializes in Safety Eyewear. His advanced knowledge in the field has helped us find the answers to many questions over the years. We are lucky to have such an incredible person on our team.
